The First Mechanical saw mill to the Fingal Valley
was a steam driven machine owned by Julius Aulich
Although
pit mills were used throughout the Fingal Valley as far back as the
1820s, it was 1884 before German immigrant, Julius Aulich, built the
first steam driven mechanical mill at what was know as the Mill Ridge.
This was a flat area over looking the sea on the eastern foothills
of St Patricks Head at Irishtown.
