until 1955 when the first mechanical chain saws were introduced to
the timber workers of the Fingal Valley, trees were felled by hand.
First the tree fellers would cut a front in the tree with an axe,
then cut the back in with a cross-cut saw.
When they heard the tree crack the men would cry "TIMBER"
as loud as they could to warn everyone in the vicinity that the tree
was about to fall
