Book Launch

Darlene Wright's book "Convicts of the Fingal Valley" was launched by Society President, Barry Aulich and Break O' Day Council Mayor, Robert Legge, at a
Greater Esk Tourism Cocktail Evening at the Purple Possum
in St Marys on Friday the 5th August 2011

The book gives a comprehensive account of the impact convicts had on the development of the Fingal Valley. In particular, it looks at the Probation System, which saw over 1,000 convicts allocated to work projects in the Valley. One of which was the famous St Marys Pass, where over 500 were employed during the period of construction from 1842 to 1846

If you have convict ancestry, perhaps, they are among the 1,000 or so named in the book

The book can be purchased at the St Marys Newsagency,
St Marys Elephant Fudge, Scamander Beach Hotel Resort
and Fingal Online Access Centre, or by sending a chegue or money order for $20 to:
St Patricks Head & Esk Valley Historical Society Inc,
P O Box 148, St Marys, Tas 7215
